Despite being unable to topple his twin brother and claim the third spot on the podium at the 2023
Tour de France, finishing 4th marks an impressive performance from
Team Jayco AlUla leader,
Simon Yates.
"I think we can proud of ourselves, we really went after a lot of stages this year and personally for myself, fourth overall, I’m quite pleased with that," the 2018 Vuelta a Espana rider tells his team's official website post-race. "Also I have no real regrets, so I think we have to be happy."
As mentioned, Yates is a former Grand Tour winner. His more recent record in three-week stage races isn't so good though, only being able to finish one of his last five Grand Tours before this year's Tour de France.
"This is the first Grand Tour in a while that I’ve not had any injuries or sickness or bad luck, so I’m very happy," he continues. "It’s been a tough period like that to deal with, but finally I’ve managed to come through it and had a ‘normal’ Grand Tour, and a ‘normal’ me and I’m very happy.”
