From the very first stage when Adam took victory ahead of Simon, the Yates brothers have been front and centre at the 2023 Tour de France. Reflecting on a very memorable race for many reasons, Adam Yates shares how special it is to compete against his twin brother at the highest level.
“It's a great moment for us. Finishing third and fourth in the biggest bike race in the world is something special," the UAE Team Emirates rider says post-race in quotes collected by Ecclismo. "It's nice to be able to share this. We will soon celebrate with a good bottle of wine.”
Whilst Simon Yates was the out-and-out leader of Team Jayco AlUla, Adam's role was slightly different for UAE Team Emirates. Although he wasn't able to help Tadej Pogacar secure the overall victory, he does feel like it's been a successful Tour de France for the team.
“We are on the podium with two riders and have won three stages. I think that is a great result," he says. Has finishing 3rd refuelled the fire within Yates to become a GC team leader of own once again? “You never know, I get better every year. I will also try to keep improving myself and if that works out, that would be great."
