🇮🇹 #Giro @JaiHindley HAS RIDDEN INTO PINK WITH A 1:25 GAP IN GC! 💗👏🏼👊🏼💪🏼
Jai Hindley stormed the 2020 Giro d'Italia with a breakthrough performance where he set off to the final time-trial in pink. Tomorrow, he will be doing the same, however this time with a comfortable lead over second placed rider Richard Carapaz who he distanced today.
He had been unable to distance Richard Carapaz up until that point at the Giro d'Italia, but it was in the final mountain of the race where Jai Hindley managed to finally crack the shell of the INEOS Grenadiers, and later put in as much time as possible into the finish line. The result: 1:28 minutes won in just over three kilometers. Hindley has stormed to the race lead, one that is essentially secured as long as he stays upright in tomorrow's time-trial into Verona.
He described his attack that earned him success: "We had a plan today and we executed it perfectly. Lennard gave me an incredible boost and when I heard that Carapaz had dropped back, I pulled everything out of the bag." As soon as he rode out of the GC group, he connected with Lennard Kämna up the tough slopes of the final ascent, and then he built a big gap over Carapaz.
Now, with 1:25 minutes lead, he's certain to take the title tomorrow in Verona. "I knew that today would be the decisive stage of the Giro. It was a brutal finale, but I knew that it was possible to make up time here if you have good legs.
"As for the time trial, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. You never know how a time trial will go on the last day of a three-week tour, but I will give everything to win the pink jersey. The Giro is not over yet, but the team and I are very confident," he concluded carefully.
