Remco Evenepoel was one of those touted as a potential contender for the win on stage 3 of the 2025
Tour de Romandie. In the end though, the Belgian had to settle for a 7th placed finish as UAE Team Emirates - XRG's
Jay Vine soloed to the stage win with a late attack.
“I felt pretty good today, I was in a good position at the front,” reflected the
Soudal - Quick-Step leader in a post-stage interview at the finish line with Eurosport. “Maybe I just lacked a bit of that final punch. I was considering going myself, but Higuita set a strong pace, and it became difficult to do anything. So I focused on finishing on the same time as the guys ahead of me.”
After coming across the line in 7th, Evenepoel has slid down to 9th on the general classification, 52 seconds off the Maillot Jaune wearing
Alex Baudin. Nevertheless, the Olympic champion is content with his performance on the stage. “As a team, we tried to conserve energy as much as possible during the stage. In the end, we still got the most out of it," concludes the Belgian. "I’m happy with how I rode the finale.”
