Kaden Groves starred on stage 2 of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana, taking his 5th stage win at the Spanish Grand Tour over the last three years and moving into the Green Jersey that he won in 2023, as a result. Ahead on stage 3 however, the Australian dropped a bombshell.
Speaking in a pre-stage interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Groves announced that the rumours of his imminent departure from Alpecin-Deceuninck are indeed true. “It feels really good to ride for this team, but I already signed a contract for next year,” the sprinter admits. “So I have a new team, it will be announced soon.”
The long rumoured suitors of Groves have reportedly been Astana Qazaqstan Team, who are searching for a replacement to the retiring Mark Cavendish. On stage 3 of the Vuelta a Espana, Groves will get another chance to add more success to his palmares before he and Alpecin-Deceuninck part ways.
