The breakaway prevailed on stage 1 of the 2024 Tour de l'Avenir as Henrik Pedersen took the win, and after the small gaps created by the opening prologue, the Maillot Jaune as well.
Five riders got themselves into the breakaway. Those being Gal Glivar, Henrik Pedersen, Tim Rex and French duo, Baptiste Troja and Yoan Morin. Best placed in the GC after yesterday's prologue was Pedersen at just 11 seconds behind the leader, Michael Leonard.
Heading into the final 20 kilometres, only Rex, Pedersen and Glivar remained at the front of the race, and with still over three minutes advantage over the peloton, both the stage win and the Maillot Jaune were heading to one of the leading trio.
Although the time gap was closing on the roads towards the finale, the peloton had left themselves too much to do. With Pedersen the best placed of the three, the Maillot Jaune was the Dane's but could he take double joy with a stage win as well? In the fight for the line, it was Pedersen who opened the sprint and there was simply no stopping him.
