Isaac del Toro has spoken for the first time since his crash and withdrawal from Itzulia Basque Country 2026, offering a message of positivity and determination as he begins his recovery.
The UAE Team Emirates - XRG rider, who was forced out of the race on Stage 3 after a fall that later revealed a thigh muscle tear, took to social media to address fans and reflect on the setback.

“I have to stay positive”

“I have to be positive after all and be grateful that it was not the worst thing that could happen,” Del Toro wrote on Instagram.
The 21-year-old also provided a first indication of his recovery timeline, suggesting a period away from racing but without signalling a long-term absence. “I will be under control for a few weeks… thank you all for your messages, your attention and for believing in me.”
Having been one of the standout riders of the early 2026 season, the injury represents a significant interruption, but Del Toro’s focus is already firmly on what comes next. “I can’t wait to return… I will try to come back very soon and very strong.”

Support from team and fans

Del Toro also took the opportunity to thank those around him following the crash, highlighting the support he has received both from within the peloton and beyond. “Thank you to my teammates for the morale and for always being with me in good times and in the best.”
The message, shared in both English and Spanish, underlines the connection the young Mexican has built with fans, as well as the growing attention around his performances this season.

Recovery now the priority

With UAE Team Emirates XRG already confirming a muscle tear in his right thigh, the immediate focus shifts fully to recovery and rehabilitation. While no definitive timeline has been set, Del Toro’s own words suggest he is targeting a return in the near future, even if the exact date remains uncertain.
For now, the rider’s Itzulia campaign may be over, but his message is clear: this setback is temporary, and the intention is to return quickly and at full strength.
