“I blew myself up a bit on the last part of the long climb" - World Champion Tobias Foss explains poor performance on stage 3 time-trial of the Tour de Romandie.

Jumbo-Visma's individual time-trial World Champion, Tobias Foss was forced to settle for an 8th-placed finish on the stage 3 ITT at the Tour de Romandie. In his post-race interview, he described what went wrong.

“I blew myself up a bit on the last part of the long climb. It wasn't the best day, but it wasn't super bad either," Foss explained to Eurosport immediately following his ride. "You also see the specialists at the front participating. It is true that it is not a course to drive an average of fifty kilometres per hour and that aerodynamics and power are less decisive. Still, a good time trialist won today."

Eventually coming home in 8th, Foss finished 24 seconds down on the stage winner, UAE Team Emirates's Juan Ayuso and following the stage Foss for full of praise for the young Spaniard who has endured a nightmare few months battling tendonitis.

"He is a super strong rider and can climb well as well as time-trial," Foss praises. With Ayuso also taking the overall race lead, the Jumbo-Visma man now sits in third overall, 19 seconds down on Ayuso and just three seconds ahead of fourth-placed Ivo Oliveira in the battle for the podium.
