Hugo Hofstetter gets 35 stitches in ear due to disc brake accident

Arkéa - Samsic has been having a stellar start to the season and much of it due to Hugo Hofstetter's spring campaign which has seen him gather many points for the team's efforts to rise to World Tour level. The Frenchman however has suffered an accident in the recent Circuit Cycliste Sarthe which has caused him issues.

In the final day of the French stage-race the very strong winds and rain have caused havoc in the peloton. Race leader Mads Pedersen crashed and lost the race in a day that on paper seemed innocent, whilst Olav Kooij won the stage and GC. Hugo Hofstetter had finished fifth the previous day, and found himself caught up in a crash where he was subsequently hit by a disc brake which has caused a big cut in his left year. The French rider has needed 35 stitches applied.

He has shared on Twitter an image of his helmet which has also suffered from the impact of the disc. It is unclear if Hofstetter will be racing Paris-Roubaix in the coming week, although he has been mentioned in the team's provisional list.
