How to watch the 2026 Classic Var & Tour des Alpes Maritimes live and on TV in the UK and USA - Dates, stages and schedules

On the 21st and 22nd of February the peloton in France will take on two more important race days. The first of two early-season weekends in the region will see the peloton take on the Classic Var and Tour des Alpes Maritimes.

The race was created only in 2024, a very recent one, as the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var has split into separate events. The Var region has always had its own racing, and currently has its own one-day race. Lenny Martínez and last year Christian Scaroni took the previous victories in this race, both of which had steep hilltop finishes on different climbs.

The route is less difficult than what the riders have found in the past, and this is going to be a race which can end in multiple scenarios. The riders depart from La Garde early on and quickly find the most difficult climb of the day, which is 6.8 kilometers long at 4.8%. Nothing too difficult, and the truth is the race lacks true climbs this time around.

But that does not mean its an easy race, as the riders find rolling roads all day long. A sprint is expected into Brignoles after 175 kilometers on the bike, but there will certainly be many that will suffer beforehand, whilst early attacks and breakaways will not be easy to control in such terrain.

The Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var has been split over the past few years, with the Classic Var becoming its own even. The Tour des Alpes Maritimes now exclusively focuses on the southeastern corner of the country and is the race that carries the legacy of the decades-old event. It's first edition dates back to 1969 and was won by none other than Raymond Poulidor, one of France's best ever.

This is a race that has often marked the start of the international cycling calendar and features massive names as its historic winners suhch as Joop Zoetemelk, Bernard Thévenet, Sean Kelly and even Laurent Jalabert managed to win it on two occasions. In the 21st century however the list of winners hasn't lost much prestige; as Philippe Gilbert cemented his name as a winner in his early career back in 2025.

Filippo Pozzato, Davide Rebellin, Thomas Voeckler and Thibaut Pinot are all riders who are in the race's palmarès; whilst this decade Nairo Quintana has taken the overall win in both 2020 and 2022. In 2025 it was Christian Scaroni who took the win in the two-day stage-race, beating Santiago Buitrago and Lenny Martínez.
