Fashion is not too important in cycling, and over the past few years that affirmation has really come to light. Specialized's time-trial head sock became a popular feature within some World Tour teams, but today Team Visma | Lease a Bike have revealed a spectacular new helmet.
Pictures shared be the team, but also from other locations in Lido di Camaiore where Tirreno-Adriatico starts today, show off the new Giro helmets that the team will be using. Innovative is a good term for what the Dutch team will be using, the helmets have gathered a ton of attention this morning on social media.
It is an helmet with a design quite different than that of a regular helmet, significantly bigger whilst simultaneously having a large transparent visor. Supposedly, the size of the helmet in it's front is with the intention of further closing the space between the head and the chest in the time-trial position, hence improving aerodynamics of the rider.

On the one hand, I’m surprised Steven Spielberg and Woody Allen haven’t sued for copyright, on the other, when you consider that optimising aerodynamics allows a non-assisted cyclist to manage over 90km in an hour on a flat circuit, I’m not surprised to the length teams will go to test the limits of what the UCI will allow.

Is there even one person out there who thinks that this helmet looks 'hot'?

They are not using it for fun. It will have been wind tunnel tested to show its efficiency. Like all TT helmets they work well as long as the rider keeps his head up to maintain the streamlining along the back. If they look down as you often see riders doing that can't maintain that position, turbulance is created and any advantage is lost. The advantage of this helmet or similar that I've seen is that they smooth the airflow round the shoulders as well as the back.

Aerohead 2.0..... I can think of a different definition... helmet doping UCI will ban it by next week
