“He’s doing well” – Jonas Vingegaard’s mother-in-law gives fresh health update two months after season-ending Tour de France crash

Jonas Vingegaard is said to be doing well as he continues rebuilding towards 2027 following the Tour de France crash that brought his season to an early end.
More than two months have now passed since the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader fractured his collarbone on stage 15 of the Tour, ending his race while he sat second overall behind Tadej Pogacar.
Vingegaard has not raced since, with Visma later confirming that the injury delayed his return to training sufficiently for the remainder of his 2026 season to be abandoned.
Now his mother-in-law Rosa Kildahl has offered a fresh update from inside the family. “He’s doing well,” Kildahl said in comments reported by Ekstra Bladet from an event in Copenhagen. “The season is over now, so he can just train towards a new season. That’s the annual cycle. That’s how it goes.”

Focus firmly on 2027
The comments come after weeks in which any prospect of a late-season comeback has been progressively closed down. Vingegaard initially kept the Montreal World Championships in consideration, but that possibility disappeared once Visma confirmed in August that he would not race again this year.
Fresh rumours of a surprise October return for the European Championships or Il Lombardia were also dismissed earlier this month by Visma sports director Jesper Morkov, who said there was “nothing” to the speculation.
Vingegaard himself had already explained that the collarbone injury delayed the start of his training and left too little time to regain top level before the end of the season. “The focus is on preparing optimally for the goals of the 2027 season,” he said when Visma announced the decision.
Kildahl’s update now places Vingegaard firmly in that quieter rebuilding phase rather than another race preparation block. She also said the family continue to see plenty of each other during his time away from competition. “We live in the same town. We see each other a lot, and I have the children several times a week. So that’s lovely.”

A major season already banked
Vingegaard’s early finish came after one of the biggest seasons of his career. He won Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya before taking overall victory and five stages at the Giro d’Italia, completing his collection of all three Grand Tours.
Just five weeks later he started the Tour de France, where his challenge ended on stage 15 after the crash that fractured his collarbone.
There will be no Montreal appearance this weekend and no late-season Classic comeback. Instead, the next phase is now entirely about recovery, training and deciding the major objectives of 2027.
For the moment, the latest update from those closest to Vingegaard is also the simplest one: he is doing well.
