"He seems invincible, but we have seen him lose the Tour de France twice" - Nairo Quintana assesses Tadej Pogacar's Giro d'Italia dominance

So far at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, Tadej Pogacar has been the strongest of the Maglia Rosa contenders. Second on the opening stage and victorious on stage two, Pogacar even attacked late on stage three. Movistar Team's Nairo Quintana has had a rider's eye view of the Slovenian's performance though, and he insists there is still much drama left at the Giro.

"I think he enjoys himself and some criticize him, others applaud him, but the basis of everything in life is to enjoy himself. For some people it bothers them, for others, it is a reason to applaud him," Quintana assesses. "For me, if he enjoys himself, then let him enjoy himself, sometimes it can have consequences if he wears himself out too much. Now he seems invincible, but we have seen him lose the Tour de France twice, whilst being for me, the most powerful rider."

Quintana himself, has arrived at the Giro d'Italia in poor form and in this first week his goal is to pick up the pace to try to arrive with strength at the end of the race to fight for a stage victory for Movistar Team.
