"He is even better at that" - Mathieu van der Poel also a Fortnite ace according to training partner

Mathieu van der Poel has been a superstar on the bicycle for many years and according to his regular training partner, Luke Verburg, the Dutchman is also an expert gamer.

“Mathieu and I have known each other for quite a long time. We met for the first time at cyclocross with the Dutch team. I was a junior at the time, he was elite. Despite our age difference, we got along well and had a number of similarities. That's how we've kept in touch over the years,” explains Verburg in conversation with Wielerflits.

Top of their gaming list, is Fortnite. Much as on the bike however, van der Poel is often a cut above the rest on the game too. “We often play together on PlayStation, especially Fortnite. Who is the best of us? Still, Mathieu, he is even better at that,” Verburg smiles. “I'm not going to lie about that. We play more often during the winter months, which is a fun activity when it gets dark outside quickly. And this winter we were both in Spain, so I sent him a message.”

“We agreed a number of times to cycle together, so we covered many kilometres together. That's always a lot of fun, that's really the first thing. We just get along well. But of course, we continue to ride, and that is also allowed,” concludes Verburg.
