Giro d'Italia | Tom Dumoulin leads Jumbo-Visma with aims of returning to GC battle

Team Jumbo-Visma have announced their lineup for the Giro d'Italia yesterday. Having their main focus in the Tour de France, it is no surprise that the Dutch team bring a B-tier lineup to the Italian race, however with a set of riders who will still be headlining the race.

After his debut Grand Tour with the team at the Tour de France 2020 - where he finished seventh, whilst in support of Primoz Roglic - Dumoulin struggled to find his best level, and took a prolonged break. Last year he returned to the road in June, having finished runner-up in the Olympic time-trial. In the mountains he has yet to prove his comeback, however he will surely be coming into the race with the ambition of getting back to the level that has seen him conquer the race in 2017.

The team comes with clear overall classification ambitions. Norwegian champion Tobias Foss will be one weapon, having finished ninth last year, however having a season so far hampered by crashes. Sam Oomen is also coming with similar ambitions, getting at the start a status that is very important for the 26-year old - who finished ninth at his debut in the race in 2018.

The team will be backing these three riders, with hopes that at least one will be in contention for the top places, with Koen Bouwman being an important piece of support. Three rouleurs will be protecting the riders above with Jos van Emden, Pascal Eenkhoorn and Edoardo Affini - with the latter a contender for the race's time-trials. Gijs Leemreize completes the team's lineup in his Grand Tour debut.

Jumbo-Visma for Giro d'Italia: Tom Dumoulin, Jos van Emden, Edoardo Affini, Gijs Leemreize, Sam Oomen, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Tobias Foss and Koen Bouwman.
