So far at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, the weather has been relatively nice for the riders. With the start of the third week looming with stage 16 on Tuesday however, the incoming snow and cold weather is seeing some riders pushing for a adjustment to the stage.

Speaking in a Twitter exchange with Cycling Magazine, Cofidis' Simon Geschke explained some of the fears of the riders surrounding the predicted weather forecast. "Everything was very relaxed as usual, my body felt surprisingly good after yesterday's torture, I was satisfied... Until I saw the weather forecast for tomorrow," begins the German, when asked about how his rest day was going.

According to Geschke, who has worn the King of the Mountains jersey at this Grand Tour although borrowed from Tadej Pogacar, who understandably prioritises the Maglia Rosa, the need for adjustment to the stage is being pushed by both the riders and the UCI although as of yet, the race organisers have showed no signs of budging.

"The CPA group is currently exploding. At the moment, teams + UCI are on one side, and the organizer RCS is on the other. 0 degrees and snowfall are forecast for the Umbrail Pass," he explains. "Since the ex-pro Adam Hansen became president there, things have improved a lot and he puts his all into situations like this. But he can't do magic either. I'm the team spokesman for us. At the moment, the RCS (of course) wants to complete the stage as planned. However, the UCI reserves the right to cancel the stage completely if it snows at the top of the Umbrail. The riders would like to start the race after the Umbrail descent and race the rest of the stage normally."

As mentioned, as of yet there is no change but if there is any further developments prior to tomorrow's stage, we will keep you up to date.
