Giro d'Italia 2024 stage 7 GC Update: Incredible Tadej Pogacar extends lead over 2:30 with major reshuffle of top-10 behind

As expected, the first time-trial of the 2024 Giro d'Italia, has completely reshuffled the Top 10 of the general classification. It was the longest ITT at the race since 2015 and some of the time gaps were equally big by the finish line.

The two big favourites for the stage victory today did not disappoint. Filippo Ganna proved to be the strongest on the flat, completely dominating the first two intermediate points. Tadej Pogacar meanwhile flew up the final climb, making up the 47-second deficit he had over the Italian INEOS Grenadiers star and eventually taking the stage win.

As for the overall, it was expected that Pogacar would take a lot of time off his direct rivals, but behind, a somewhat disappointing showing from Geraint Thomas, matched by a very impressive performance by Daniel Martinez has seen places 2 and 3 swap hands.

Ben O'Connor is up to 4th, Luke Plapp up to 5th and into the White Jersey for Best Young Rider. Alexey Lutsenko rises from 10th to 6th as Cian Uijtdebroeks managed to limit his losses and stay in touch in 7th. Completing the top-10, Antonio Tiberi, Filippo Zana and Lorenzo Fortunato.
