Starting the day second in the GC, Geraint Thomas didn't have the time-trial has was looking for on stage 7 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia dropping down to 3rd overall and losing considerable time to Tadej Pogacar.
"I tried to ride within myself but then when it was time to go, I felt okay but just lacked it a bit. I couldn't get on top of it and yeah, it is what it is," the Welshman reflects ruefully in his post-stage interview with Eurosport. "Just one of those days."
Losing exactly two minutes to Pogacar, Thomas also lost time on former teammate, Daniel Martinez with the Colombian, now of BORA - hansgrohe rising above Thomas to 2nd on GC.
