The Tour de France has entered it's final week and the peloton did it straight away with an ascent to the monstrous Mont Ventoux. A climb that commands respect, it took the GC riders to the limit, and has made some changes in the overall classification.
In the day's breakaway was Ben Healy, who once again benefited from his outsider status to escape the peloton and be able to gain time on his direct rivals. Whilst fighting for the Top5 is not a realistic goal at the moment, the Irishman jumped back into ninth place - which he had lost on stage 15 - overtaking Carlos Rodríguez. The two were able to distance Jordan Jegat in the fight for the Top10.
In the fight for the yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard put in a strong performance, perhaps his strongest to date in this Tour, and although he lost 2 seconds at the finish line he managed to put Tadej Pogacar under pressure and also resist his attacks. The gap between the two is now of 4:15 minutes.
Florian Lipowitz consolidated his third place in the GC and also youth classification lead, gaining around half a minute to fourth place Oscar Onley with over 2 minutes of difference between the two now. Onley is now under pressure from Primoz Roglic too who had a strong ascent to Ventoux. Kévin Vauquelin lost his 5th place to Roglic and is followed by Felix Gall and Tobias Johannessen.
