Remco Evenepoel himself looked back with satisfaction on his first Frebch stage race. Even if an overall victory at Paris-Nice was not quite an option for the Belgian champion, second place and a stage win is something to build on. In Sporza's podcast, José De Cauwer analyzes the performance of the Soudal - Quick-Step leader.
"After that miss in Friday's stage, this was the best possible result for Remco," he refers to stage 6 when three riders, including future winner Matteo Jorgenson gained decisive advantage. "For me he is the best rider in this peloton. But the best does not always win and Matteo Jorgenson is also a good winner, congratulations."
"Here, Evenepoel does not show whether he can win the Tour or stand on the podium. That requires different firepower. He tried to compete against them at last year's Vuelta a Espana last year and crashed in that one stage."
"We cannot say that Jorgenson was the better of Evenepoel. He was not the one who rode against Roglic. Along the way it became apparent that Evenepoel missed an opportunity by not going with Jorgenson in that stage."
