Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale had a solid week racing at the simultaneous Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico, scoring a final top 10 result at both races. In France, it long seemed like Aurélien Paret-Peintre will carry the traditional team flag, but in the end it was Felix Gall who rose to 9th overall in Nice.
"It was a completely crazy stage," says Gall about the final stage won by Remco Evenepoel in and around Nice. "There was a sprint just before the descent, about 37 kilometers from the finish. Everyone knew you had to sit there at the front. They fell right in front of me, but I managed to avoid the crash."
"However, I had to let go and dropped out of the group," he continues. "I don't know how, but Bruno did a great job. He managed to get me back to the front. I've never experienced anything like this before. It was incredible. I'm quite happy with this week: ninth in the general classification is a good result, but I know I can do better."
