Although still easing his way into the 2024 season, Jasper Philipsen already has a win under his belt, taking stage 2 of the recent Tirreno-Adriatico.
After his standout performance in the 2023 season however, where the Belgian powered his way to more wins than any other rider, Philipsen is regarded as probably the fastest sprinter in the peloton. As such, his services are being touted and it seems, the Alpecin-Deceuninck star is open to potentially moving to new pastures.
“I told Alex Carrera (his manager ed.) that the next four or five years will be my best years,” said Philipsen in conversation with Het Laatste Nieuws. “I hope to find a team where I can get the best out of myself. That could also be in my current team. All options are open. I will look at the full picture and then decide.”
If he were to leave Alpecin-Deceuninck however, that would of course mean a split from his superstar teammate and close friend, Mathieu van der Poel. “It's nice to have good friends, but before I sign a new contract, I will have thought about myself first,” Philipsen concludes, determined to secure himself a team that can ensure his “potential is best achieved and where I can pursue my dreams."
