Fabio Jakobsen resists climbs to win stage 2 of Tour of Denmark

Fabio Jakobsen has shown great form to win stage 2 of the Tour of Denmark, the European Champion won the final sprint on a hilly day, beating race leader Soren Waerenskjold.

The second day of racing features a slightly hillier finale and the GC was set to be raced for once again. Seven riders formed the day's breakaway in Mark Stewart, Julius Johansen, Jeppe Aaskov Pallesen, Frederik Irgens Jensen, Henrik Pedersen, Tobias Aagard Hansen and Daniel Stampe.

A few teams controlled on the day but Alpecin-Deceuninck had intentions of moving, they began to push the pace hard in the final hour of racing. Inside the final hilly circuit then the breakaway was caught despite the attempts of Mark Stewart to go off the front solo.

The final three-lap circuit had a small climb, the escapees were caught in the second ascent as Mad Pedersen attacked off the front. In the final climb Brent van Moer made an attack with a little split however plenty riders were close, ultimately a sprint could not be avoided.

Mads Pedersen burned through matches in his attacks and did not have the legs in the end. Soudal - Quick-Step managed to leadout Fabio Jakobsen, who took a dominant win. Soren Waerenskjold has finished second on the day to get more bonus seconds towards his GC run, whilst Soren Kragh Andersen sprinted to a strong third place to also take bonifications.
