Emanuel Buchmann expected to chase his GC ambitions with Cofidis from next year

It's not very surprising that last year's German champion Emanuel Buchmann is not planning to extend his contract with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe considering the bad blood between them following a last-minute Giro d'Italia non-selection.

However so far it was merely speculations where he'd land for 2025 after having spent his whole career at the German team that was called Bora - Argon 18 back in 2015 when Buchmann entered the professional ranks.

According to the traditionally well-informed Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Buchmann could be heading to French WT team Cofidis next year in a rather surprising move. The French formation is not complete strangers to German riders, however the lone representant of the country in Cofidis - Simon Geschke will retire at the end of this season, meaning that Buchmann needs to quickly get the hang of the new language.

The 31-year-old who once finished 4th at the Tour de France (in 2019), has been unable to confirm his status of leader for general classifications in recent years and thus his non-selection for the Italian Grand tour absolutely has its justification.

This year, Buchmann can look back with a slight sense of pride only at the runner-up result at the Tour de Hongrie where he was sent instead of the desired Giro. Other than that, there isn't much to write home about from the German, who hasn't been racing since early-June's Tour de Suisse when he broke his hip and collarbone in a rather nasty crash during second stage of the Swiss race.
