Eddie Dunbar confirmed for Giro d'Italia: "The goal is to achieve the best possible general classification result"

After leading a Grand Tour charge for the first time in his career at the 2023 Giro d'Italia, Team Jayco AlUla's Eddie Dunbar will return to Italy in 2024.

“The most likely Grand Tour for Eddie this year is the Giro,” his coach Alex Camier has told The Irish Times. “That is the target, and if everything goes well that is where we will be. The goal is to achieve the best possible general classification result, whatever that looks like.”

Acquitting himself well at the Giro d'Italia in 2023, Dunbar was a viable podium contender for much of the race before fading in the third week and eventually finishing in 7th overall.

Still just 27 years old, the former INEOS Grenadiers rider will have competition in his quest for the Maglia Rosa next from the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Nairo Quintana and, if Team Visma | Lease a Bike get their way, Cian Uijtdebroeks among others.
