Dutch cycling star Dylan Groenewegen is out of the final
weekend of the UAE Tour after crashing badly on the fifth stage. The six-time
Tour de France stage winner suffered a concussion during the incident. Despite
the severity of the crash, the 31-year-old rider from Team Jayco AlUla still
managed to reach the finish.
Groenewegen himself told the Telegraaf, "It is better
than yesterday, but unfortunately I am not allowed to start anymore because of
a concussion."
The incident was one of several crashes during the fall of
the stage. Other riders such as Jasper Philipsen, Carlos Rodriguez, Felix Gall,
and many others also fell. In the busy arrival zone, even stage winner Tim
Merlier experienced a crash after the stage.

In that sense, his winning the final stage is special, for him and for the team. What made it even more special is he beat the overall champ in the process who, surprisingly, figured out in the battle for stage honors. Tadej, however, did not appear to be all-out in trying to win the stage.. he was just that good, that on the final stage, injury and all, and without taking unnecessary risks, he found himself in front of the peloton and simply allowed his racing instinct take over.FredMan07-01-2026
