The organizers of the
Dwars door Vlaanderen are making the route safer in view of the 2025 edition. The people in charge of the Belgian classic have in fact decided to eliminate the Kanarieberg from the route and, above all, the downhill run-in to the key climb.
This means that the descent, where last spring a huge fall involving
Wout Van Aert, Mads Pedersen or Jasper Stuyven among others, won't be part of the course next year.
The Belgian from Visma | Lease a Bike had gone on a reconnaissance in recent days on the road where his accident occurred, but in the end this will not be tackled by the race because it is considered too dangerous given the speeds reached and the great nervousness that is generated in view of the approach to the wall.
"After this year’s crash, we made an assessment with Flanders Classics," explained president Pavel Desmet to
Het Nieuwsblad. "Cycling is changing. Preparation races no longer exist. Today, in all races, you ride with a knife between your teeth. That’s why we decided to change the route to improve safety even more."
