That possibility has now been ruled out,
according to WielerFlits. Sources within Visma have confirmed that Roglic's representatives have been informed the team will not pursue his signature, although the reasons for the decision have not been disclosed.
The prospect of Roglic reuniting with Sepp Kuss in 2027 now seems to be over
Eight years of Grand Tour glory, but no second chapter at Visma
Roglic won four of his five Grand Tours during his time with Jumbo-Visma, claiming three consecutive Vuelta a Espana titles between 2019 and 2021 before adding the 2023 Giro d'Italia. He also won Olympic time trial gold and Liege-Bastogne-Liege after joining the Dutch organisation in 2016 as a former ski jumper.
His departure came shortly after Visma completed an extraordinary clean sweep of the podium at the 2023 Vuelta, with Sepp Kuss winning ahead of Jonas Vingegaard and Roglic. Having previously been the team's principal Grand Tour leader, Roglic sought greater freedom to pursue his own ambitions as Vingegaard established himself as a two-time Tour de France champion.
His move to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe brought another Grand Tour triumph, with Roglic winning a record-equalling fourth Vuelta in 2024. But three years after their separation, the prospect of returning to Visma would have reunited him with a team still led at the Tour de France by Vingegaard.
Visma currently have 29 riders under contract for 2027 and intend to complete their squad with one further signing. The team are considering other opportunities on the transfer market, including riders with a Classics-oriented profile, although there is no confirmation that those plans influenced the decision against Roglic.
Where next for Roglic as 2027 future remains unresolved?
Roglic's contract with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe expires at the end of the year, and he has still not confirmed whether he will continue racing or retire.
His long-time agent Mattia Galli indicated on 12 October that Roglic needed to make his decision within a week or two, with preparations for any transfer requiring attention before November. That timeframe has now passed without a new team being announced.
Spanish newspaper AS reported on 24 October that people close to Roglic believe he is leaning towards continuing his career, with an announcement about his future expected soon. Lotto-Intermarche and Pinarello-Q36.5 remain among the teams linked with his signature.
Despite an injury-disrupted build-up to the Vuelta, Roglic finished second overall behind Enric Mas before winning the European time trial championship on home roads in Slovenia earlier this month.
Those results have come as he weighs up whether to extend a career that has already brought five Grand Tour victories and Olympic gold. Visma's reported decision removes one of the more intriguing possibilities from his list of potential destinations, leaving Roglic approaching his 37th birthday without a confirmed team for 2027, even as reports suggest he is increasingly inclined to race on.
