Caja Rural - Seguros RGA's Iuri Leitao has taken victory in the final race of the 2025 Challenge Mallorca series, denying the sprinters with a incredible late attack at Trofeo Palma.
With a pan-flat finale, heading into the final 30 kilometres, only one rider was attempting to take it to the sprinter's teams. Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe's Florian Lipowitz was off the front solo, but as the peloton began to up the pace and the finish line neared, the German's hopes of holding on for a memorable victory looked slim. By 20km to go, Lipowitz's advantage had already slipped to just 15 seconds over the bunch. Despite a massively impressive effort from Lipowitz, with 13km to go the catch was finally completed.
From there, attentions were firmly focused on the imminent bunch sprint, as teams across the road began to prepare and organise their respective trains. With a number of quality sprinters present, the finale was messy, as riders strung out all over the road. In the end though, aided by a tailwind in the finish, a late flying move from Iuri Leitao secured a stunning solo win, just ahead of the raging sprinters, who crossed the line in fury.
