Dimitri Peyskens only retired from professional cycling month ago, but it's already clear he will continue to be involved with cycling beyond his active career. The 33-year-old Belgian steps in as sports director/coach in the REV Cycling Academy, the training team established by Remco Evenepoel himself with aim to help build the next generation of Belgian cyclists.
Dimitri Peyskens said in October that sport would always play an important role in his life after his cycling career. The Belgian was not lying. As team leader of 10 juniors, he is part of a new step within the REV Cycling Academy: an international program will be held in 2025.
"I have a Master's degree in Physical Education, have an A coach license and also followed the sports director course. Even though it is a training team, the project is ambitious. If Remco links his name to something, the intention is to score," Peyskens said in an interview with Wielerverhaal.
"We already had teambuilding and a first team training," the ex-pro continues. "We are also going to organize some reconnaissance of courses like Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne and Nokere Koerse. Some guys have already booked an internship individually."
The group consists of eight Belgians and 2 foreign riders. Peyskens is already satisfied with the commitment of the namesake of the project. "Contrary to what everyone would expect, Remco is very closely involved in the project," Peyskens emphasizes. "He attended the teambuilding and he is in the team WhatsApp group."
