Abnormally for such efficient finisher like Demi Vollering, she had to wait for her first victory of 2024 until early May at La Vuelta Femenina, where the Dutch lady celebrated twice and brought home the GC as well. A week later, the SD Worx - Protime leader continued her winning way at Itzulia Women. Now she has a chance to score triple at Vuelta a Burgos Femenina.
Vollering is now racing with a lot of self-confidence again, after her recent successes on Spanish soil. "These victories in Spain provide some relief. I knew that the condition was good, but confirmation only really comes when you win," the rider says in a press release. "Now I ride more relaxed again. However, you are only as good as your last race, so of course I will go for the overall victory again in Burgos."
"In the spring it was often just not there, so this is a kind of relief. I knew I had to stay patient. Hard work is always rewarded. You just don't know when, so it's important to stay calm. The fact is that once you get that first victory, you immediately gain extra confidence and can race more relaxed. You are more likely to trust your instincts. Otherwise you race a little more carefully."
And now comes the Vuelta a Burgos, a race that Vollering already won last year. What is she really looking forward to now? "I am especially looking forward to racing with Lorena Wiebes again. I like working towards a sprint. Creating a good lead-out is a team effort and I get a lot of satisfaction from that. That's a different kind of challenge. It's nice if you can drop your teammate off in a perfect position for the finish. That is what I like so much about cycling as a team sport."
