The world of cycling is once again in mourning. On this occasion, the sad news of the sudden death of Noa Sartis has been reported. The 16-year-old rider was competing in the French region of La Sarthe when he suffered a heart attack during a race from which he was unable to recover. On this occasion, the tragedy had nothing to do with any kind of fall or accident of the cyclist.
The events occurred in an U17 race in Courcemont, according to the French newspaper Le Parisien. Noa Sartis was leading the race when he suffered a heart attack in the last kilometres and fell to the ground. The emergency services tried to revive him, but nothing could be done to save the life of the young French cyclist.
Sartis was part of the Union Cycliste Joué-les-Tours team. An official communiqué had to confirm the tragic event with the following words, which also highlighted what a great professional he was despite his young age:
"The Union Cycliste Joué-les-Tours announces with sadness the death of Noa Sartis at the age of 16 years old. Noa was a cyclist of our U-17 team. In addition to her sporting qualities this year she triumphed in the velodrome (regional and Departmental champion in pursuit), in the Montlouis race and in the Saint Aignan event", says the statement. "Noa was generous, feisty and appreciated by his teammates, coaches and team leaders. We are in shock and it is a difficult moment to overcome for his family, friends and teammates, but everyone has a big heart to honour him in the upcoming races. All the members of the Union Cycliste Joué-les-Tours send his parents our condolences and all our support," concludes the French team.
From all associated with CyclingUpToDate we also want to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Noa Sartis.
