Movistar Team is immersed in a restructuring phase with a view to the 2024 season. After an irregular season, the Spanish team aims to regain its position among the strongest in the peloton and has embarked on an ambitious signing process to achieve this goal. However, one of the most recent acquisitions has generated some uncertainty among fans and Colombian media such as 'Antena 2'.
These days are being announced notable additions to the telephone team. One of them has been Davide Formolo, who is coming from a great season with UAE Team Emirates.
Formolo, almost 31, is an Italian cyclist with a palmarès that includes victories in the Veneto Classic and the Coppa Agostoni in 2023, as well as stage wins in the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Vuelta a Catalunya and the Giro d'Italia. He also holds the title of Italian road champion in 2019 and a runner-up finish in 2014. In terms of grand tours, Formolo has achieved three 'top 10' finishes, with outstanding performances in the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España.
The addition of this rider, while not placing them as 'leaders of the ranks', raises a relevant question for Colombian fans: could Davide Formolo come to compete with Einer Rubio for the role of second-in-command behind Enric Mas? We'll see in 2024...
