There is little doubt that Christophe Laporte has been one of the stars of the spring classic campaign. A winner at Gent Wevelgam and Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Frenchman has now been rewarded with an extension to his Jumbo-Visma contract.
Laporte's current deal was set to expire at the end of 2023 and there had been plenty of rumours swirling about various teams interested in bringing the 30-year-old into their respective set-ups and making him their undisputed classics leader.
According to Wielerflits' sources, Laporte has turned down the chance to move teams and will instead sign an extension to his Jumbo-Visma contract. Although he will perhaps have more competition for his place in the team than he would elsewhere, Laporte clearly agrees with the old adage, "if it's not broke, don't fix it".
Prior to signing for Jumbo-Visma in 2022, Laporte had almost all of his career at the French-based team of Cofidis and according to the reports, a return to his native country could have been on the cards with AG2R Citroen Team prepared to offer a big financial increase. However, this seemingly will no longer be the case.
