A report from Marca has unveiled a complex and interesting situation in which it is known that there is a possibility of Dr. Marcos Maynar, who was part of the doping ring that ended up suspending Miguel Ángel López, may have been in contact with other figures in the peloton recently - particularly from the Caja Rural - Seguros RGA team.
The investigation surged from the fact that during the Vuelta a España, all teams received a 23-page document where it was alleged that Spanish Pro Team Caja Rural - Seguros RGA was in contacts with Maynar. Maynar was the leader of a doping ring that took place in Spain and involved Miguel Ángel López. He is currently under trial for possible drug trafficking and money laundering.
It was reported that between 2021 and 2022, Maynar sent a document to a rider of Caja Rural with instructions on the use of prohibited substances (Dichloroacetic Acid, Theophylline, Thiotacid and Actovegin). However this was done without the knowledge of the team and it was not reported who the rider was. It is also said that the document was leaked by a figure from the team (most likely a staff member) that was not pleased with his non-selection to the Vuelta.
After being contacted by the Spanish news outlet, the team issued a statement: "The Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team has filed a complaint with the Civil Guard in which it has informed the Civil Guard of the events that occurred during La Vuelta España 2023 consisting of the massive dissemination of a partial and decontextualized report by email and by postal mail anonymously with the aim of damaging the reputation of this Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team and the Civil Guard has been made aware of these facts through the corresponding complaint in case. They could constitute a crime. Since the complainant is unaware of the person or persons responsible for the facts, the complaint is not directed against a specific person, and this is expressly reflected in the complaint."
