Broken collarbone confirmed for Bart Lemmen after Volta a Catalunya crash

Team Visma | Lease a Bike's hopes at the Volta a Catalunya were dealt a blow on the opening stage as one of the team's loyal domestiques, Bart Lemmen crashed out hard.

After undergoing medical checks in Spain overnight, the Dutchman, who was not able to finish stage 1, has now had his injuries revealed. "Update: Bart Lemmen sustained a fractured collarbone in a crash during the opening stage of Volta Ciclista a Catalunya," writes an official announcement by the Team Visma | Lease a Bike social media pages. "We wish Bart a speedy recovery!"

Team Visma | Lease a Bike came to the Volta a Catalunya sporting a two-pronged GC challenge through Sepp Kuss and Cian Uijtdebroeks. Whilst Lemmen's departure will be a blow, the two leaders will hope to remain in the fight for overall victory over the coming days.
