Biniam Girmay reveals main objectives in Milano-Sanremo and Gent-Wevelgem

Biniam Girmay broke through the classics scene last year in tremendous style with a victory at Gent-Wevelgem and in 2023 he will attempt to defend his title, one of his main goals of the spring alongside Milano-Sanremo.

The 22-year old has exclusively raced in Spain throughout this start to the season and has taken his first win of the year at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. After taking a break from competition he returns today at the Trofeo Laigueglia where he initiates a stint of racing in Italy.

He will take part in Tirreno-Adriatico, and later also use Milano-Torino as preparation for Milano - Sanremo where he will look to improve on last year's 12th place. He will then move onto the cobbled classics where he will take on the E3 Saxo Classic and Gent - Wevelgem where he will start with the number 1 alongside strong competition.

It is not known whether Girmay will prolong his stay in Europe further than Gent - Wevelgem, as such as last year he may travel back to Eritrea to be with his family and have a training block. The Tour des Flandres and Paris-Roubaix were previously mentioned as possibilities in his schedule.
