The final stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour delivered drama, as the final kilometers saw the general classification and the stage win being battled, with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team succeeding in both as Fabio Jakobsen won the sprint and Mauro Schmid managed to take the overall win.
Lotto Soudal worked throughout the final section of the stage in order to bring back the breakaway and have Tim Wellens fight for bonus seconds. Wellens took three seconds in the first sprint being in clear advantage, but the two following sprints saw Quick-Step and Lotto Soudal swarmed in front, with blocking and headbutting involved, and Schmid managing to take back the three seconds exactly, seeing both riders back in the same time difference. As it started, Schmid won the race with the same time as Wellens. There may be a post-stage change though, updates may follow...
Shortly after Alpecin-Fenix and BORA - hansgrohe took over for the final sprint, with the German team delivering Sam Bennett to perfection, but the stage was won by Fabio Jakobsen in the end, who beat Jasper Philipsen and Gerben Thijssen to the line.
