Avoiding Tadej Pogacar at the Vuelta a Espana? Primoz Roglic may be planning Giro d'Italia - Tour de France double in 2025

The 2025 season continues to take shape. In the last few weeks, among the main questions heading into the new season is the calendar that the main cycling stars - Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic - will be riding.

Above all, what is expected are the grand tours that each will race: Giro d'Italia, Tour de France or Vuelta a España. After Pogacar's double in 2024, the trend has been set, and now all 4 are expected to compete in at least 2 of the 3 races.

In Roglic's case, according to journalist Daniel Benson, the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe star is seriously considering competing in both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. The Grande Boucle is going to be a fixture on the calendar for both the Slovenian and his 3 rivals.

What would this mean? That Primoz Roglic would not defend the title won in 2024 in the Vuelta a España, nor of course would he go for the absolute record he currently shares with Roberto Heras (4 each).

It is true that there is nothing official, but perhaps Roglic's decision not to go to the Vuelta may have a lot to do with the belief that his compatriot Pogacar will be there. The UAE Team Emirates leader wants to keep crossing off races in his palmares, and the Spanish grand tour he has not yet been able to win.

He only participated in the 2019 edition, when he was not yet the superstar he has become. Even so, he still took 3rd place overall.

Roglic would therefore prefer to go for his second Corsa Rosa title, far from the imposing figure of Tadej. The Red Bull - BORA leader won the 2023 edition, 14 seconds ahead of Geraint Thomas.
