Antonio Tiberi takes the white jersey on Pico Villuercas and enters the GC top-5: "It’s a good start of La Vuelta and I hope to keep going"

The eighth place on Pico Villuercas sees Antonio Tiberi move up to fourth place overall. On top of that, the young Italian becomes the new leader of Youth classification with three seconds advantage over Lennert van Eetvelt. The Bahrain - Victorious rider declared an attack of final podium in Madrid ahead of the race and so far, things seem to be moving in the right direction.

After spending most of Giro d'Italia wearing the white jersey (and eventually winning it too), Tiberi is back wearing the colours he's already becoming very familiar with. "I’m back with the white jersey here in La Vuelta and I’m happy," he said after the stage.

It appears as though he wasn't ready that he'll get in the lead of classification this early: "Sincerely, I didn’t expect to have it on the 4th stage," he admits. "The difference with the Giro are the steep climbs and the hot weather. It was a really really hot day but it’s a good start of La Vuelta and I hope to keep going."

Regarding the other threats for his ambitions of finishing as the best U25 rider in the race, Tiberi recognizes Lennert van Eetvelt, second today, as his main challenger. "I know Lennert is really strong. For sure he’s one of the strongest contenders for the white jersey and I will have to look at him."
