Analysis: United States sweeps Colombia in the UCI 2023 rankings as top American nation

We take a look at the top Americans in the UCI ranking in 2023. Overall, the USA is 10th with 9702 points and Colombia is 13th with 6256. Sepp Kuss stands out as the top American cyclist in 2023, and much of his success is due to his impressive win at the Vuelta a España. This victory in one of cycling's Grand Tours is a significant achievement that puts him at the top of the list.

The United States is strongly positioned in the ranking, taking the top three positions with Sepp Kuss, Neilson Powless and Matteo Jorgenson. This reflects the growth of cycling in the United States and the presence of world-class talent on the international scene. The success of these riders is a testament to the quality of the teams and investment in cycling in the country.

Colombia, despite having the largest number of riders in the top 10 and top 25, seems to lose importance compared to the outstanding performance of U.S. cyclists. Its best representatives on the list are Santiago Buitrago and Einer Rubio, both of whom won stages in the Giro d'Italia. Although Colombia has had a historical impact in international cycling, the fall of riders such as Nairo Quintana (has not raced in 2023), Miguel Angel Lopez (enters the list although for doping it seems that he will leave and Rigoberto Urán (due to age) does a lot of damage.

The top 10 includes two Canadian stage winners in grand tours, the veteran Michael Woods and the promising young Derek Gee. It is closed by the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz who has not had a good season due to injuries and who surely hopes to improve for next year.
