With the opening Grand Tour of 2025 looming, former Maglia Rosa winner Primoz Roglic is front and centre when the names of the big, pre-race favourites are discussed. Given the immense quality of the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe support squad around the Slovenian, it's perhaps understandable that Roglic is among the standout contenders for the win.
Our ambition for the Giro is clear: we want to play a role in the general classification and deliver exciting racing for the fans," explains Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe's Rolf Aldag in quotes released as part of an official press release posted to the team's website. "We know how tough this Giro will be, and we’re also aware that all eyes will be on Primoz. That’s why we’re heading to the start in Albania with a strong, well-balanced team."
That support team mentioned by Aldag there includes one of the stars of the 2024 Giro d'Italia, Giulio Pellizzari. The 21-year-old Italian is riding the first Grand Tour of his time at Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe after having left VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè over the off-season and will be looking to make his mark at the Giro once again this time around.
Also involved, is the runner-up at the 2024 Giro d'Italia Daniel Martinez. The Colombian climber was the only rider to stay within 10 minutes of Tadej Pogacar at the Giro twelve months ago, but this time returns in a super-domestique role supporting Roglic. As does former Maglia Rosa winner Jai Hindley, who has been quietly growing his form in 2025 after a disrupted campaign last year. The Australian will likely be another key cog in the mountain train of the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe team.
Completing the lineup are Roglic's compatriot and great friend Jan Tratnik, himself a former Giro d'Italia stage winner, plus Italian duo Giovanni Aleotti and Gianni Moscon, with two-time Giro stage winner Nico Denz being the final member of the lineup.
And it's fair to say that confidence is high within the team as well, heading into the first Grand Tour of the season. "Primoz is in great shape, and the group around him is well-rehearsed and gives us real tactical depth," Aldag concludes with optimism.
