Filippo Ganna abandons Renewi Tour hours before the start of decisive time-trial

Today the Renewi Tour peloton tackles the race's sole time-trial. The 15 kilometers against the clock will be decisive for the overall classification but even for the Italian who lost time on the opening day, it was an opportunity to get back to his winning ways. But this morning he has pulled out from the race.

The Italian lost time on the first stage and it wasn't a purposeful decision. Ganna has struggled with form at the Deutschland Tour and it looked like the situation here was similar. The 28-year old was second at the Olympic Games time-trial recently and will be eyeing the World Championships (and likely the Europeans), this comes as a big setback.

"Filippo Ganna will not take the start of stage two today at the Renewi Tour," INEOS Grenadiers shared in a message. "The Italian completed Wednesday’s opening stage but is suffering from fatigue, and a decision was taken for him not to continue. Filippo has no symptoms of illness and will now rest, recuperate and prepare for his upcoming targets".
