Alberto Contador, who is currently working as an analyst for Eurosport, has warned the riders of the dangers of the sixth stage of this year's Giro d'Italia. Everything indicates that we will see a sprint in Naples, so we can assume that Lidl-Trek will control the race so that Mads Pedersen will again have the opportunity to win and consolidate his maglia rosa, but it will not be easy. Other teams will try to make things difficult for the leader, starting from those who will be in the breakaway of the day.
"The sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia is here, the longest stage of this Giro d'Italia, 227 kilometers between Potenza and Napoli. A quite particular stage because the first part is quite steep, it starts climbing, good for a breakaway.
"And then also, a stage that will cause doubts among the sprinters' teams: we control, we don't control. The first 145 kilometers will be practically without a meter of rest, not flat at all. There is a very long pass of 20 kilometers later, which is crowned around the 55th kilometer that can lead to the consolidation of a breakaway of many men and also some of them of quality."
Will Lidl-Trek be able to control everything?
"I don't think so, they'll have to rely on other sprinters' teams or they'll have to rely on a dangerous breakaway in the general classification and have the hand of another team if they really want to play for the sprint in Napoli. We'll see if they are able to control it or if the first breakaway of this Giro d'Italia arrives," said the two time winner of the Giro.
