After recovering from toxoplasmosis, Rune Herregodts forced to miss spring finale

The Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise has in Rune Herregodts perhaps the most important piece of their team, but the Belgian has been suffering for the last few months with several illnesses that have took him out of the grand majority of the spring campaign after a promising start to the season.

After a promising neo-pro season last year, where he took his first pro win in his final race of the season - Ronde van Drenthe - Herregodts won the first race of this season, with a successful breakaway on the opening day of the Vuelta a Andalucia. Soon after though, he got toxoplasmosis which took him out of competition for over a month. Last week he briefly returned to competition, but only completed the Tour du Jura before getting a respiratory infection that has taken him out of competition once again - more specifically from Liège-Bastogne-Liège which he was scheduled to start this past weekend.

"I'm working as hard as I can to get back as soon as possible," Herregodts said. Where that will be is not yet known, however the 23-year is pointing towards the Belgium Tour and the national championships in June which should be his next big goal of the season.
