Einer Rubio won the Jebel Jais stage in the
UAE Tour 2023 and the Colombian rider of
Movistar Team hopes to repeat his victory on the same summit in the third stage of the 2024 edition.
Rubio, who comes to this UAE Tour much more experienced after having also won in the Giro d'Italia, confessed before leaving for the 21 kilometers and an average of 5% that the key is to take into account the wind and a good race strategy to try to win again with such tough rivals as Adam Yates or Pello Bilbao:
"I think I remember it very well, it was a day later, we will try to repeat it today, let's see how we do. It's quite a long climb and quite fast above all. We will have some windy sections and we will have to read the race and see if we can take advantage of it. It's the same as last year, we remember the course very well and it's something we have to take advantage of".
Although the climb can be important for the overall classification, under such gradients the main climbers should be relatively balanced. Yesterday's time-trial created important differences with Brandon McNulty taking over the race lead, and at Jebel Hafeet we should have the most important day of the race.
