Ben Tulett lines up at Liège-Bastogne-Liège with growing confidence and a clear sense of opportunity, stepping into a leadership role for Team Visma | Lease a Bike following changes within the team.
Speaking to Cycling Pro Net on the morning of the race, the British rider pointed to his recent form and recovery as reasons for optimism after his podium at Flèche Wallonne. “Yeah, definitely. We’ve had a few days to recover from the effort on Wednesday, so that was good. We did a recon on Friday and now it’s race day, so I’m really excited.”

Momentum from Flèche Wallonne

Tulett’s performance earlier in the week has elevated both his confidence and expectations heading into the final Monument of the Spring. “Hopefully we can carry on the momentum from Wednesday,” he said. “Of course, it’s a very strong start list, so we have to look at our opponents as well.”
That balance between confidence and realism shapes his outlook. “We go for the best possible result, whatever that ends up being. I’m excited and I’ll bring confidence from Wednesday into this race.”

A race that may open earlier

Liège-Bastogne-Liège has often been defined by its decisive moves on La Redoute, but Tulett suggested that trend may not hold as firmly this year. “Normally this race explodes on La Redoute,” he explained. “But with such a strong field and races opening up earlier and earlier, you have to be aware it could happen before.”
That unpredictability is something riders will need to manage throughout the day. “We’ll just have to see what happens in that moment.”
Weather and wind may also play a role in how the race unfolds. “Yeah, it definitely has the potential to mix things up a bit,” Tulett said of the expected headwind after La Redoute. “That also makes it exciting and a little bit unpredictable.”

A leadership role to embrace

With team circumstances shifting in the build-up to the race, Tulett now finds himself among the protected riders for Visma, a responsibility he is keen to embrace. “Yeah, I’m one of the protected riders for today’s race,” he said. “That’s really exciting and a big opportunity for me.”
It is a position that reflects both his recent performances and the confidence placed in him by the team. “I want to take it as well as I can,” he added. “I’m just excited to be racing.”
For Tulett, Liège-Bastogne-Liège represents both a challenge and a chance to confirm his place among the sport’s emerging contenders. With momentum from Flèche Wallonne and a leadership role within one of the strongest teams in the peloton, the British rider arrives with a platform to test himself against the very best.
Sunday’s race will show how far that progress can take him.
