18 year old Italian rider Francesco Mazzoleni passes away after being involved in a road accident

Tragedy has struck the world of cycling this afternoon. 18-year old Italian rider Francesco Mazzoleni was struck by a driver whilst out on a training ride on Sunday the 15th of February and has passed away due to his injuries.
Mazzoleni was a rider for the Gooddshop Yoyogurt team and was hit by a vehicle around 14:30h this Sunday near the town of Barzana in the north of Italy.
The team has shared a statement this Sunday afternoon: "It's a very sad Sunday for us. Our Francesco Mazzoleni leaves us too soon. He was hit while training on his home roads, while doing what he loved most. We all gather in a painful silence around Francesco's family".
"We will always carry with us your smile and the determination that drove you to pursue your dream. You are and will always be one of our Orange riders."
CyclingUpToDate would like to extend its condolences to friends and family of Francesco.

It's like me claiming the vaccine made me a stronger rider - I actually did get stronger, but only because I rode A LOT more during lockdown with nothing else to do, and the streets were gloriously empty! In fact, I even received a cocktail of various vaccines before my trip to Borneo over Christmas just past, and guess what? I got even stronger as a rider!
