He could afford to spend his max energy on this stage because the next real mountain stage is nine days later on 18th July. Till then he'll just be on cruise control. Unfortunately, he'll have to go back to spending more time in meeting the yellow jersey obligations just two days after relinquishing it for this very reason.

He said if there's another 1km up Tourmalet he would have blown it and told Isaac that he shouldn't followed him on the attack. He should have rode like Jonas following his own pace. Basically, he was riding at his limit on the penultimate climb. Too bad, the camera switched and we didn't get more insight.
