Actually, I think the relevant law of physics, and what I believe Pog refers to, is Newton’s first law. On a predominantly flat course without too many sharp turns (like P-R) MVdP, who has higher mass, will have the benefit of higher inertia. Higher inertia = more force is needed to slow him down. The force that slows him down is mainly drag, but that depends on shape and surface, not mass. Gravity, which is the main reason for the “more weight, more watts”, doesn’t play such a significant role on a flat course. Of course higher mass means more force (watts) is needed to accelerate out of bends (that’s based on Newton’s second law), but once back at cruising speed, MVdP will benefit from his higher inertia.
